Most of the children who come to us have experienced severe disruption in their educational progress. Some have never been able to manage formal schooling.
Traumatised children and young people need a therapeutic education - an education which considers and addresses emotional and cognitive development together, and in stages tailor made to the whole needs of the child. At Back on Track Children’s Services S.E Ltd we recognise this as being paramount; however, it must be the right education for the individual. We have excellent mainstream schools within walking distance to Walmer House. However, it is recognised that some Young People cannot access/attend mainstream school and to do so would be setting them up to fail. We have already established links to a range of specialist schools in the area who can provide an excellent service, for those Young People whose education has been disrupted for whatever reasons. We can also facilitate tutors within the homes to begin the transition process into education. We provide expert help in the transition from a specialist school or PRU to mainstream school or college, where appropriate. Where young people have moved on to mainstream school or to further education, we provide continuing support and work closely with the school or college which they are attending. |
